Arguably one of the most popular social media channels, Instagram gives users the ability to tell their story visually and under any filter they so choose.

That being said, are you using the channel in the most effective way possible?

Use these 3 steps to make your Instagram feed stand above the rest!

  1.     Find a vibe.

Just like other parts of your brand, you’ll want to have a cohesive feel to your Instagram feed. Before posting, ask yourself:

  1.     Am I using a filter? Instagram was built on filters, because they work!
  2.     Does this photo look similar to other photos I post? If all your photos are shot up close and one is far away, it will certainly stand out—but not in a good way!
  3.      Is the photo too dark? Take a look at your feed. Colorful photos get more likes!

It’s no secret–I love color!

  1.     Post regularly.

There’s nothing more annoying than finding someone you love and waiting weeks to see an update. Growing on Instagram is similar to growing on other platforms—consistency is critical. Get in the habit of posting around the same time or times daily, posting no less than three times per week.

  1.     Be a storyteller.

Have you ever noticed that specific Instagram accounts have hundreds, if not thousands of followers? For example—dogs, cats, travel, etc. It’s because those accounts have curated a specific image to a targeted audience. Find your story, or focal point and tell it!

And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t warn you about a couple Instagram pitfalls? One that was setting you up for failure, that’s what!

While ‘gramming, try to avoid:

  1.     Seeing double.

If your pictures are dark, fuzzy or otherwise unclear, avoid it! Ask yourself if the photo would stand out to you if you were scrolling or if you would just keep going. Chances are you would zip right past it!

  1.     Time.

Think of it as instant-gram. Unless it’s a truly beautiful photo for a #tbt or #latergram, live in the moment! Timely uploads are what Instagram was made for. Plus, no one cares about the Super Bowl you went to 6 years ago.

  1.     Selfie overload.

We are all guilty of taking a #selfie, recognizing we’re having a great day and posting it online. It happens! But when you scroll through your feed and realize you’ve posted nothing but photos of yourself for two weeks—put down the selfie stick and try a landscape or your lunch.

I hope these tips help you take your Instagram feed to the next level and if you ever have any questions–I’m just a click away! Connect with me on Instagram at @ByKaitHanson.
