Part 2: Best Places to Find Ideas for Your Blog!

In Part 1, you learned different methods and ideas to help grow your blog.  Even with knowing methods for growing a blog topic list, finding inspiration can still be a challenge. Drawing insights from other places such as rival company websites and broadcast mediums can serve as a fantastic tool when figuring out what to write next. A few of the best places to find ideas include:

  • News: For a company blog, is there industry news that can be briefly shared then discussed? Or for a personal blog, is there news that affects your niche?

  • Competitors (Similar blogs/companies): We’re not talking about stealing ideas here. Check out competitor websites and blogs. What do they emphasize and why is it important? What’s your take on the topic?

  • Q&A sites: What questions are people asking about your industry or niche? What answers can you provide? Do you have a unique perspective that can be told through your own story?

  • Interviews: Interview people for the blog or invite guest posts that are a good fit. For a company blog, try featuring employees and perhaps partners and clients. For a personal blog, is there someone in the community that your readers would find interesting?

  • Daily experiences:This one is both the easiest and the hardest idea source. Daily experiences at the company or in a blogger’s life create relatable, interesting content. What makes it hard is getting over the idea that daily life is uninteresting.

  • Your reading community: Readers, social media followers, and even Google Analytics tools are a great way to find out what people want to read from you.

As a blogger, what sparks inspiration for you? What other ways do you develop blog topic ideas? Share in the comments.
