App Review Series: This series is written by members of Social Fabric to educate other members about new apps, how to use them, and their opinions about the apps. These are not sponsored posts, but written by members who volunteered to do a review.

HootSuite For Social Media Interaction

HootSuite is an App that allows users to schedule messages to their social media accounts. With HootSuite, you can also monitor your social reach in certain categories {i.e. tweets} and HootSuite can make attending Twitter parties easier by allowing you to follow certain conversations, hashtags and keywords.

According to HootSuite, you can:

  • Spread Messages
  • Monitor Conversations
  • Track Results
  • Make Friends
  • Increase Happiness

HOW TO INSTALL HOOTSUITE:

HootSuite is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Download the HootSuite App here.

Installation of the HootSuite App is easy. All you have to do is follow their onscreen prompts {as seen above}. I have to be honest here. Before this review, I did not have a HootSuite account, nor had I ever used it. When I first started blogging, I used a site that automatically posted to my Facebook and Twitter accounts but found that it didn’t work well for engaging the audience. So, I started moving away from auto and scheduled posting on Facebook {but continued to use a plugin that tweets automatically from my blog to my Twitter account}.

However, sometimes I have something that needs to be posted at a certain time or on a certain date and I just can’t be absolutely certain that I can be in front of my computer to make that happen. That is why I really love that Facebook now has that nifty option to schedule your posts for later times, dates, etc. Unlike the automatic posting I was using before, Facebook allows you to type up each individual update, thus making them far more real. However, if Twitter has that same option, I am not aware of how to use it. And that is what I have especially loved about the HootSuite App. I can now post my personalized tweets hours or even days in advance and not have to worry about bland posts sent directly by an automated plugin.

PROS:

I can easily schedule a tweet for later. This allows me far more personalization with my tweets – which is something that simply isn’t offered with my current plugin. This also makes it to where I don’t have to make my posts “tweet ready” if I choose not to. I know that for some, a post title full of hashtags can be a real turn off.

CONS:

HootSuite doesn’t currently have an option to share on Google+, Pinterest, Instagram or several other social networks. It only allows for sharing on Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and LinkedIn. Since I do not have accounts on Foursquare and LinkedIn, and I can easily schedule posts from Facebook, I chose to only use the app for Twitter.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS APP?

If you like the idea of scheduling tweets, then yes, I would most definitely recommend this app. I love that aspect, so I am keeping it on my phone.

Speaking of increasing happiness, how cute is that owl on my homescreen?
